Assignment Description

Research Paper (due November 4th)

Description taken directly from your syllabus. Contact your professor if you are confused or have any further questions about this assignment.

Students will submit a 4-5 page paper on an individual or organization related to social work history. Students must document their resources (a minimum of three) according to the American Psychological Association (APA) format. Avoid using websites for your resources unless sponsored by a professional organization such as the National Association of Social Workers. Online journals are acceptable.  Citations in the text as well as a reference page must appear in the paper. The “Citation Reference Help” website on the Library homepage may be helpful in learning to use the APA format for your paper:  Also, assistance can be found at the Academic Resource Center (ARC) located on the main level of Pilgrim Library.

Students should report on:

  • the origins and brief history of the individual or organization studied
  • the social problem(s) the individual or organization attempted to address
  • their success or failure in addressing the problem
  • their contribution to the social work profession
  • the cultural context of the era and their reception by society (were they radicals of their time?)
  • the student's personal evaluation or critique of the individual or organization
